Traditional Thai Massage
Traditional Thai Medicine incorporates massage as a fundamental means of maintaining a healthy body. Much of what developed into Thai Traditional Medicine originated with a doctor who treated the Buddha, along with other members of the Indian royal classes, more than 2500 years ago using massage, hydrotherapy, diet, exercise and herbal therapies. Building on these theoretical foundations, Thai Traditional Medicine has evolved over the centuries into something uniquely Thai.

Like Ayurveda, Acupuncture and Shiatsu, Thai Massage is designed to treat the invisible lines of energy running throughout the body. Any blockage in these channels, or sen lines, leads to physical disease; free flow of energy throughout the body maintains health. The goal in Thai Traditional Medicine is always to maintain or restore the body's natural, healthy balance.
The session is done on a traditional mat on the floor, and you will be clothed. You should wear loose, comfortable clothing, similar to what you might wear to a yoga class or the gym. No oil is used in the massage.
The massage consists of pressure applied along the sen energy lines to activate them and prepare your muscles for deeper work, followed by yoga-like stretches and postures. Thai Massage is often referred to as having yoga done to you. You will find that with the therapist's assistance, your body is capable of movements and stretches you would not have thought possible. Even if you are extremely flexible from dance, yoga or stretching, Thai massage can enhance your routine.
At the end of the session, you will find yourself inhabiting a different body--more open, more relaxed, more flexible. Thai massage is excellent as a general treatment, but it also successfully treats innumerable common conditions, such as lower back pain, sciatic pain, stiff shoulders and tight leg muscles, among others. The work is very deep, but done in a methodical, gentle way which allows your body to gradually adjust, rather than attempting to overwhelm your muscles with force. Because of this, it is both highly effective and relaxing. You will also see that the effects are long-lasting, much more so than many other types of bodywork.
Thai Massage consists of four primary components--front, back, side-lying and seated positions--and hundreds of possible actions. A session with all four components could easily last three or four hours. We usually combine two components at a time, providing you with a therapeutic and relaxing two hour session. If you wish to experience all four components, we recommend a series of two or three Thai Massage sessions, spaced with at least one day in between. This allows your body to adjust to the changes from one session before the next treatment.
Traditional Thai Massage sessions begin at $125 for each component. If you have never received a Traditional Thai Massage, prepare yourself for a treat...once you experience Thai Massage, it may be the only type of massage you ever want.
